Miami-Dade County has five casino floors, and you will not find a live dealer dealing blackjack at any of them. That surprises most visitors, but it follows from where each casino came from. Two grew out of jai alai frontons, two out of racetracks, and the fifth is a tribal floor built around bingo. None of them is a Seminole property, and in Florida the live house-banked pits sit on Seminole floors, so Miami's casinos trade in slots, electronic tables and, above all, poker. Four of the five run a live poker room, and that is where the city is strongest.
Where each floor came from
Casino Miami: a working fronton
Casino Miami is built around a jai alai arena that seats 6,500, and the matches still run. Players hurl a ball off a granite wall with a curved wicker cesta, and betting is pari-mutuel, like horse racing. Around the fronton sit about 40,000 square feet with more than 1,000 slots, electronic blackjack and roulette, and a 24-table poker room with a whiskey bar. Open 24 hours.
Magic City: dogs to jai alai
Magic City was the Flagler Greyhound Track until 2018, when its operators turned the greyhound permit into a jai alai fronton. Greyhound racing has since ended across Florida, so ignore any listing that still mentions dogs. The floor holds 800-plus slots and an 18 to 19 table poker room open seven days, spreading Hold'em, Omaha and Seven Card Stud. An outdoor amphitheatre gives it a concert calendar, and it sits about five minutes from Miami International Airport, which makes it the layover pick. Open 24 hours.
Hialeah Park: the historic racecourse
Hialeah Park opened its casino in 2013 inside a 200-acre track on the National Register of Historic Places, an Audubon bird sanctuary known for its flamingos. Quarter horse racing ran from 2009 to 2016 and allowed the casino to open; treat any advertised live season with caution. Inside are roughly 880 slots, electronic tables, a simulcast room and 23 poker tables, some of them outside on the veranda where cigars are permitted. No other room in Florida offers that.
Calder: the old race course by the stadium
Calder at Miami Gardens is the Churchill Downs property next to Hard Rock Stadium, and at roughly 100,000 square feet it is the largest gaming floor in the county. It is a machine room first, with around 1,100 slots, electronic roulette and blackjack, and bingo. The poker room and simulcast closed in 2014. A card room now deals player-banked poker variants against the dealer instead. Check the Dolphins schedule before a game-day visit.
Miccosukee: the bingo-based floor
Miccosukee Casino & Resort sits where the western suburbs meet the Everglades. The Miccosukee Tribe offers Class II games only, so its 1,700-plus machines play like slots but run on bingo underneath. The bingo hall, with more than 1,050 seats, is the largest in south Florida and the heart of the place. There is also a 20-table poker room, a high-limit lounge with 59 machines added in December 2024, and a 302-room hotel.

Choosing a Miami floor
- Poker in the city: Casino Miami for the biggest room, Magic City for a seven-day room spreading Hold'em, Omaha and Stud.
- Somewhere to show a visitor: Hialeah Park, in daylight, for the grounds.
- Pure slots volume: Calder.
- A night away with a hotel: Miccosukee, and drive the Tamiami Trail before dark.
- Watching a sport live: jai alai at Casino Miami or Magic City, on the fronton's own schedule.
If you want a live dealer
You have to leave the county. The nearest pits are on the Seminole floors in Broward, such as Seminole Casino Coconut Creek and Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood, where everyone gambling must be 21.
