The Big Easy is a pari-mutuel casino in Hallandale Beach, Broward County, with a New Orleans theme. It rates 3.8 from more than 3,300 Google reviewers.
If you are looking for Mardi Gras Casino, or for the Hollywood Greyhound Track, this is the same property under its third name. The track opened on 1 December 1934, which makes this one of the oldest continuously operating gambling sites in Florida.
The greyhounds are gone
Be clear on this before you plan a visit: there is no live greyhound racing here, and there will not be. Florida voters ended greyhound racing across the state, and the last cards ran years ago.
A number of listings still advertise a December-to-April dog racing season with 5pm and 7:30pm post times. That information is obsolete. What the property does still run is simulcast wagering, so you can bet on racing from elsewhere.
What's on the floor
More than 700 slot machines plus virtual table games.
As a pari-mutuel rather than a tribal property, The Big Easy cannot offer house-banked live tables — under Florida's compact with the Seminole Tribe those are reserved for tribal casinos. So the blackjack and roulette here are electronic.
What it can run, and does, is a serious card room. The Big Easy Poker Room carries more than 30 tables, spreading Texas Hold'em, Seven Card Stud, Omaha and Omaha Hi/Lo, with free-to-enter poker tournaments on the calendar. Thirty tables makes it one of the largest poker rooms in Broward County, and the free tournaments are a genuinely unusual offer.
Dining and entertainment
The New Orleans theme runs through the food: The French Quarter, Bonjour Cafe, Le Royale and the Trifecta Grille & Bar.
There is nightly entertainment, an events venue, a gift shop, several bars and — unusually — a flea market on the property.
Tips before you go
The casino is not open 24 hours on weekdays. It runs roughly 9am to the early hours Monday through Thursday, then stays open continuously through the weekend. Confirm before planning a weekday overnight session.
Florida pari-mutuel venues generally allow 18-plus for poker and pari-mutuel wagering, with slots restricted to 21-plus. Rules vary by activity and property, so bring ID and confirm with the venue.
Hallandale Beach sits between Miami and Fort Lauderdale, close to Gulfstream Park and a short drive from the Seminole properties in Hollywood.

North in Hollywood, Seminole Classic Casino is the tribe's original property with live house-banked tables. Also in Hallandale Beach, Gulfstream Park Racing & Casino pairs a floor with thoroughbred racing. North in Broward, Harrah's Pompano Beach is the larger pari-mutuel option.
